Walsall Gala Baths

Watson Batty Architects were appointed by Kier in late 2015 to provide lead consultant and architectural design services for the refurbishment/alterations to Walsall Gala Baths for Walsall Council. Priority works included improving the existing main entrance, foyer, reception and swimming pool changing accommodation.

This £1m project was delivered via the SCAPE Framework, alongside Curtins Consulting (Civil/Structural) and Pick Everard (Building Services). Work started on site in December 2015 and was completed in May 2016.

The original 33 yard swimming pool was reconfigured creating a separate learner pool and a 25m six lane swimming pool within the original pool tank. Pool boom/filtration specialists FT Leisure completed this part of the works by early 2016.

The original 1960’s community facility now benefits from a new accessible ‘village change’ style layout including a new sauna, changing cubicles, lockers and washrooms with modern finishes whilst also including direct access to the ‘third’ Brine Pool.
