The Delivery Office sorts mail into the individual routes for the final stage of the delivery process. The new Portsmouth Delivery Office includes walk-sequencing machines which speed up the sorting process.
The current Portsmouth Delivery Office is located within Portsmouth Mail Centre which is a building not fit for purpose. 140 postal routes will be relocated as part of the project. The replacement Delivery Office, which sorts mail for the Portsmouth postcode, is the latest project Watson Batty Architects has completed for long term client, the Royal Mail Group.
The building achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ and is the first new build Delivery Office to include dock levellers. This will improve the time it takes to load and unload delivery vehicles and improve the efficiency of the operation. This is key in a building such as Portsmouth which includes walk-sequencing machines.
The project includes the latest ‘Customer and You’ improvements including enhanced customer area and improved facilities for staff. These are nationally agreed standards which Watson Batty Architects maintain for Royal Mail.
