Supermarket, Birtley

The complexities involved in the role of monitoring the shell works were highlighted fully on this complex project in the North East of England.

Numerous delays from the developers team pushed back the start date of the fit out considerably resulting in a pressurised situation to get the store open in good time. A store on stilts is never an easy project to be undertaken, but the WMS design team excelled themselves to deliver a first class end product despite some of the problems they were presented by the Developer.

Teamwork and cooperation is at the forefront of everything that Watson Batty Architects try to achieve. The relationship developed with the fit out contractor very much assisted with the success of the project.

Some late client changes were accommodated along with the ongoing issues with the shell team. The store finally opened to a great deal of public applause, forming a significant addition to the shopping offer in Birtley.
