To help deliver Leeds City Council’s Housing Growth Programme, we developed a housing masterplan to regenerate Throstle Recreation Ground and the former Middleton Skills Centre site. Procured via the Scape Framework, we supported Wates Construction through the gateway sign-off process.
The scheme contains 98 two-, three-, and four-bed affordable family homes, and 16 adult-age one bed ‘flexi’ bungalows. All dwellings meet access standards and enable future adaptations. The scheme uses an underground district heating system, all kitchens are compatible with electric, and there are EV charging points.
We hosted stakeholder workshops to help agree the cohesive visual aesthetic which uses red brick, grey brick relief panels, grey roof tiles, large windows, and Juliet balconies. To improve recreation provision for all ages, and increase biodiversity, we re-designed the public open greenspace to incorporate senior football pitches, multi-use areas, natural play areas, seating, and pedestrian paths through wildflower meadows and trees around a feature infiltration drainage pond.
