Working with long-term client, Watson Batty Architects have designed the new Manchester Parcelforce Local Depot which, now completed, provides 115 routes, significantly expanding Parcelforce’s operational capability in the North West.
The new site replaces the former site in the centre of Manchester, which was limiting operational efficiency, and improves on the services Parcelforce can offer its Customers.
An existing 10,000sqm warehouse with single storey administration block was converted to create the new 115 route operation including new mechanic installation.
Parcelforce buildings have internal operational parking for delivery vans and Watson Batty Architects worked closely with the operators to develop a safe and efficient layout.
The design and construction team worked to a tight programme to ensure that the project was completed and ready for the Christmas peak period, this included a period for the landlord to repair the roof.
The main works included installation of new warehouse heating and lighting, fire alarm system, mechanic installation, eight new dock levellers, new customer collection point, secure stores and welfare facilities.
Manchester LD is the fourteenth Local Depot we have completed for Parcelforce in the last five years.
