The Midlands site is Royal Mail’s second Super Hub, following quickly after the North West Super Hub in Warrington, and even larger. On a 53-acre site in Daventry, the building footprint is equivalent to ten football pitches, with the capacity to process 1 million parcels a day.
We were involved from the initial feasibility stage through to developing and overseeing the shell construction, designing the fit-out, and working with the automation provider to carefully integrate the parcel machine. Additional site construction includes a three-storey administration block, a 1,000-space multistorey car park with associated fleet management offices, a 16-bay vehicle workshop, a rail platform, and welfare facilities.
To help meet Royal Mail’s targets for net-zero carbon by 2040, incorporating rail transportation saves over 3,000 HGV journeys a year. The building also uses rainwater harvesting, SolarWall, and extensive photovoltaics, achieving a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ Rating.
