New logistics hub in historic Rochester

We were engaged to design a new mail centre that would support Royal Mail’s strategy to provide more efficient mail operations within Kent.

As a result of our long-term relationship, we have created a unique set of Royal Mail Building Standards. These dictated the design of the operational layouts on this site, which centred around the introduction of highly mechanised, automated mail-sorting technology.

We developed a complex 11-month phasing programme to control the timely sequencing of this critical machinery becoming operational. It was vital that the new machines were quickly installed at the completion of each phase of work while the contractor was still on site.

The building design achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ Rating by incorporating sustainable technology such as Biomass boilers, Solarwall, and rainwater harvesting.
