Last month saw the completion of the dining room extension project for York St John University. The extension brings an additional 90 covers and provides a high quality dining space at the heart of the Lord Mayor’s Walk Campus. The additional space was required to expand the University’s existing dining offer while providing additional conference and banqueting facilities.
Built by Halls Construction Group the £750K project features Glulam timber beams and columns which set the tone for the interior design also produced by WBA. The exterior envelope is constructed from rustic brick chosen to visually connect the extension to its context.
Designed as a pavilion in the landscape the extension provides external dining facilities via a covered terrace. The extension is bordered by a new landscaped garden which was completed as part of the scheme and provides an attractive backdrop for the dining area as well as offering additional amenity space for the students and staff.
The completion of the dining hall extension marks another successful project which the practice delivered using BIM software with all consultants working in a fully coordinated environment.
