Watson Batty Architects is proud to be joining Variety, the Children’s Charity, in their first ever virtual cycle challenge to help raise vital funding required to change the lives of young people. The last year has been a tough year for many, for both individuals and businesses across the UK and sadly many Charities have felt the effects of the global pandemic with fundraising halted and urgent funds now needed. In supporting this challenge we hope to raise as much money as possible to help Variety continue to support disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK.
It is well known amongst the Watson Batty team that we have quite a few keen Cyclists, runners and fitness fanatics across both our Leeds and Loughborough studios, and we were therefore delighted to see that so many staff signed up to the challenge, making the decision to fundraise as an office an easy one. This has allowed for the practice to set our own ambitious mileage target of a 950-mile challenge, equivalent of a return journey between Variety’s London and Scotland offices. As well as virtually catching a glimpse of the eye-catching scenery of the many cities we will pass, we will be virtually ‘dropping by’ Variety’s offices and a collection of our projects along the way.
To track our progress, the team will be using Strava which will then be linked to the Give Penny page for fundraising, please see the link at the end. With all miles counting, the team will be not only be cycling, but will be donning their running shoes and hitting the pavement to both run and walk, ensuring we reach this incredible 950-mile target! A weekly graphic will be shared across our social media channels showing what sites we have visited that week, a fundraising update and importantly how we are looking against our final target, making the challenge that little bit more exciting…will the Watson Batty team hit the 950-mile mark?!
Whilst we will be fundraising under the Watson Batty umbrella, once the miles start clocking up and individuals can see where they rank then we envisage the competitive streak of many coming out. Adding a little healthy competition to the challenge we hope this will encourage everyone to go that ‘extra mile’ and receive more sponsorship in the process.
Keep an eye on our social media channels for further details and from all the team, we would like to give a big thank you for any support we receive and donations along the way, it really is appreciated!
