Following recent announcements regarding the Management team at Watson Batty we wanted to take the opportunity to sit down individually and find out more about what the newly promoted team hope to bring to their roles.
After working within the practice for 4 years, in a short space of time Rob has progressed through to Associate Director, and has helped expand practice relationships within the living and specialist living teams. Here’s what he had to say about what he hopes to bring as Associate Director.
“I am looking forward to collaboratively working with colleagues to continue the recent sector growth by expanding our client base as well as maintaining what we offer to our existing clients. This has involved crucial adaptations as we enter a new age of sustainability and cost uncertainty; learning and leadership is key to the service we offer clients. I especially enjoy mentoring those around me in the office, sharing my knowledge and experience is a key part of investment in others and the continued growth of the wider team. I look forward to continuing having a positive influence in the wider business.”
Rob Cundy joined us before Christmas and has become an invaluable individual leading on our Middleton Extra Care scheme during construction and working within the Higher Education team for Clients including the University of Leeds.
“Having recently joined Watson Batty in October, I have been made instantly welcome by the team, feeling immediately at home, and am really pleased to be promoted to Associate. I am looking forward to bringing my skills and experience to bear to support the aspirations in sector growth and developing Client relationships, whilst maintaining the high standards of Client service and project delivery embedded in our ethos. My cross-sector experience, gained over nearly 25 years, will enable me to deliver technical excellence across our core sectors, and help drive efficiencies in the use of Revit on projects. Over the years, I have benefited from some great mentors and thus I will be heavily involved in imparting my knowledge to help develop our junior members of staff.'”
Gemma has worked at Watson Batty for the past 8 years, and within this time has honed her experience within the Specialist Living and Interiors sectors bringing both creativity and management skills in developing the practices expanding portfolio.
‘In recent years with a great team, I have helped further our Specialist Living Sector growth whilst looking after an extensive development programme for one of our specialist care clients. The future will see me further our growth in the Specialist Living and Interior Design Sectors. Practice wide I will be overseeing our approach to dementia-friendly inclusive design across a range of sectors and I look forward to delivering a Stirling Gold standard care home in association with the University of Stirling Dementia Design Accreditation. ‘
Dave joined in October 2020 and is key member of the living team, utilising his years of experience within the Sector whilst managing BIM and IT capabilities across the practice.
“Alongside my day to day role of running projects I’m really looking forward to the challenges that my new position will bring. I joined Watson Batty just 18 months ago and was immediately made to feel that my input was valued and I view my promotion as an indication of the faith that the company has in me and what I have to offer both the people I work with and the clients I work for. I am delighted to be involved with the practice sustainability group, looking to the future this is such a key area of concern and opportunity for us all as a practice. I am proud that as a company we are choosing to lead the way in this field and have made the pledge to commit to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. I like to keep abreast of all the latest developments in technology, to try and identify the trends that offer real value and I see a key part of what I can do is to push forward new innovations which afford us the opportunity to reap the benefits of the efficiencies before our competitors. I get real encouragement from the amount of follow-on work that we are given from many varied clients, this has given me great confidence that not only I, but the whole of the team are working to a very high standard and will go from strength to strength.”
We are looking to address the current industry wide priorities around the Climate crisis, Fire Safety compliance, and the integration of modern methods of construction; and how we provide our clients with the best possible advice. These promotions indicate an exciting chapter for Watson Batty Architects representing the future in moving the practice vision forward at the forefront of design innovation and leadership.
