Supermarket & Petrol Filling Station, Blaydon

A foodstore with a car deck on its roof presented Watson Batty Architects with some significant challenges during the initial planning of the project. Simple design decisions usually taken had to be considered in much greater detail and coordinated closely with the developers shell team.

The project involved the complex re-development of an existing shopping centre site in the north east of England.

From the outset the WMS team faced significant challenges coordinating works with the developer’s team, particularly in relation to the deck car park.

Working closely with both the shell and fit out contractors made the project progress much more smoothly and created a much more proactive response to project problems.

The store fit out was delivered very successfully and once again the store opened with a great deal of local interest.

A stand-alone petrol filling station was also delivered as part of this project operating from a site adjacent to the food store.
