University of Sheffield International College opens its doors to new students

The new accommodation for University of Sheffield International College officially opens its doors to new students this week. The College and its programmes are provided by Study Group in collaboration with the University of Sheffield. With over 20 years’ experience, Study Group’s international programmes help students bridge the academic, cultural and language gap between where they are, some 145 different countries, and where they wish to be – ‘made in Sheffield’.

The new facilities in Velocity 2, part of the  Velocity Village mixed use development on Solly Street in Sheffield, provides learning, teaching, lecture, science, social learning and administration space for the college. The multi-million pound refurbishment scheme over 4 floors within the existing building, will include accommodation for 900 students.

Watson Batty Architects were appointed by the University of Sheffield in summer 2014 to act as Architect, Lead Consultant and Interior Designers for the scheme. The project was delivered through a design and build procurement route where our design colleagues were retained as Technical Advisors and our technical colleagues were novated to Newell’s Projects to complete the design and support the delivery of the project through to completion, following a 9 month construction period on site. Working closely with both the University and Study Group we have created a vibrant and uplifting learning environment within the constraints and challenges of the existing office complex.
